Harness Approval Process

To use a harness that isn't already approved, follow the process below.

1. Check if it's already covered

2. Submit a request

If nothing covers it yet:

  1. Open harnesses/TEMPLATE.md — this opens GitLab's editor with the template already loaded.
  2. Change the file path shown above the editor from harnesses/TEMPLATE.md to harnesses/<your-tool-name>.md.
  3. Fill in the template: which SOK-approved model providers it supports (and whether it can be restricted to those only), whether it sends telemetry (and whether that can be disabled), and whether legal (TSTT) review is required.
  4. Scroll down to commit. GitLab defaults to committing to a new branch with "Start a new merge request with these changes" already checked — confirm that, and it opens the MR for you.
  5. Mark the MR as ready for review.

3. Review and outcome

An approver reviews the MR. Every request gets merged either way — approved or rejected — so there's a visible record of every harness that's been assessed, not just the ones that passed. If approved, the approver also updates the "Currently approved" list on the AI Harness page as part of the same MR — the individual assessment file and the page's approved list are two separate places, and only this step keeps them in sync.
